The Democrats didn’t have a candidate who inspired people to get out and vote. They just keep trying to appeal to some moderate centrist vote which doesn’t actually ever materialize.

If Harris didn’t peddle the exact same anti-immigrant, pro-israel, genocide supporting neoliberal shit and instead advocated for medicare for all, wealth tax, opposition to war, and bringing Israel to heel, she would have absolutely swept the election.

That’s why the Republicans had a stronger turnout. Trump was offering his base all of the psychotic shit they love.

You can’t blame voters for not being engaged and getting out to vote when the very best they can hope for is the not-quite-as-bad-as-Trump candidate. That shit does not work. They need to actually give their voters things they want, not just be the lesser evil.

I appreciate your kind words. Violence always begets more violence. Sometimes, it’s unavoidable, and if we completely refuse to defend ourselves we will always be exploited, but violence always needs to be the option of last resort. Using violence to defeat those who believe in might-makes-right just proves that we are mightier, rather than dismantling the toxic ideology at the root of the problem. We need to find a way to peacefully break the cycle of violence.

Yeah, I don’t care for streamer drama either. I like watching Hasan’s stream because he generally has pretty good analysis on things most of the time, and as a European it helps me stay informed about US politics from a leftist perspective, but he’s not for everyone, for sure.

I watch his streams pretty regularly and he’s extremely consistent. I’d say he’s honest and direct about his opinions to a fault, even. He has a LOT of haters who tend to be a bit… obsessive, to put it charitably.

Our leaders are so completely compromised by the ruling class. We have got so much work to do to tackle this issue. The New Deal didn’t go far enough, someone more radical than FDR is needed. I have my doubts that electoralism will be sufficient.

Organize, protest and elect. Emphasis on organize and protest.

1. Get as involved as you can with activist efforts locally.
2. Organize, network, focus on building solidarity. Join or form a union. Join the IWW.
3. Vote at primaries and elections for the best candidate, even if you doubt they can win.
4. Don’t punch down.
5. Don’t punch left.
6. Educate yourself, politically.
7. Push for voting reform and for anything that breaks the two-party system

Both US mainstream parties were neoliberal, so… yeah? I’m not sure if you were being sarcastic or not. They enabled eachother. While the Republicans are much worse, the Democrats didn’t prevent the rise of fascism, because doing so would have required moving towards the left, which would have impacted the class interests of wealthy donors. If the Democratic party hadn’t gone around parading with Liz Cheney and denying the genocide, they’d have won, they literally snatched defeat from the jaws of victory with Harris/Biden.

Being serious though, this cognitive offload issue with LLMs reminds me a lot of when GPS navigation became mainstream, and people would just trust it and decide to take extremely ill-advised “roads” and drive off bridges and into swamps and so on.

I feel like LLM cognitive offload is going to be an extremely serious issue in the coming years, especially for younger people growing up with this stuff.

It’s not uncommon for me to defend communist states/leaders in much the same spirit, whenever I see them being unfairly maligned, such as recently where I defended Mao Zedong, my anti-imperialist goat. Stalin is a bit harder to defend. I’d defend Khrushchev, except I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone criticise him. Probably because most liberals don’t really know much about the USSR tbh.
