Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•Passwords are like growing old. You feel like the best ones are already behind you.
36·8 days agoPasswords should not exist anymore in 2026 in my opinion (passkey, webAuthIn, OICD, SAML2, etc)

D-K after two sentences? Peak irony.

Gaming@lemmy.zip•"At this rate, why make game art at all?": Nvidia DLSS 5 demands a sale damaging and stock tanking fightback, argues New Blood bossEnglish
74·9 days agoYou can just not ship DLSS 5 in your game…
I don’t see any need to boycott this, especially not as gamers, as you can just disable DLSS 5 if you don’t like it.
I interpret this statement from New Blood boss as fear that their games without DLSS 5 won’t compete well against those with it available.
I don’t share this fear, as there was often new technology to art stuff more easy, like digital art, electronic music, digital cameras, higher resolutions etc.
It always made the traditional art style more valuable not less, as people are motivated to pay a premium for “authentic” art.So my conclusion: Art that is targeted at mainstream / big quantity / fast release cycles has benefit in AI and has to use it to stay competitive, but in the other hand mainstream art has always been live-less / unhuman anyway, so I am not very sad about this.
“Real” Art that is done by Artists for themselves not made to be like by as many people as possible will grow in value and maybe even get more popular again as people may get fed up from re-iterating art that works (e.g. pop songs)
It melts salt, isn’t it?

Europe@feddit.org•Would you accept or refuse the draft if your country decided to reinstate it?English
16·10 days agoSwitzerland: my dad had to go to prison for a limited time for refusing military service and had to do an alternative service as well.
I was able to opt-out military in a normal way (just filling a form) and do the alternative service without going to jail, as this was changed in the time between
But the alternative service are 1.5x times the days you have to serve

Technology@lemmy.zip•Microsoft May Remove Windows 11 Online Login RequirementEnglish
231·12 days agoI did win 11 install like this:
- Install windows
- On login screen create a throwaway Account (mine was somthing like noAccount253@outlook.com)
- Decline all the adware
- in Settings create new Account
- say you don’t know the ms Account of that user
- chose to set up user without ms Account
- upgrade new user to admin
- log in as newly created user
- delete user lonked to burner MS Account
Nice Little Side effect is, that like this, MS gets flooded with dead accounts 😁

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•What's going on with the Systemd age verification stuff?
35·14 days agoExactly, making it possible for admins (parents) to set up systems with rules based on age for their many children
https://github.com/LemmyNet/lemmy/pull/4881/commits/e0b20cd2744aa157852968e0df984430261408cb
But it seems like it is not widely offered by public instances…
Edit: seems to be planned for 1.0 release (major update after 0.19 if I understood that correctly)

51·22 days ago“right to root” would prevent so much eWaste.
I would love a variant that is like, if you stop delivering security and minor fixes/backports to a device, you have to give access to root or better even to the bootloader.

1·22 days agoFor me, it was around 2013 an iPad nano, thinking how awesome having an iPhone with unlimited internet would be, because I could listen anything on demand on the go Then I got my 4s as first self bought iPhone.
I realised, how macOS like it is, as I had jailbroken it.
You should use Arch, then you can update every 15 minutes 🤭

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Do rich people get addicted to drugs?
32·23 days agoDrugs =/= Drugs
But it kinda makes sense with coke and K…
Other drugs are either not that addictive / live destroying ( thinking MD/Acid) or too cheap low quality drugs (meth etc.) that don’t fit into the rich kid setting.
Of course MD and acid can have their place in the story, but I would concentrate on coke and K for realism.

Hmm, interesting…
But we learned now, that your desktop somehow isn’t reaching your DNS (pi-hole) until restart of Network Manager
So next thing i would do is traceroute and dig on your desktop while it is not working, to see what DnS is used in this state
