Someone is responsible for the backup generators failing they’re to blame.
A hospital should work fine during a blackout.
They have electrical outlets color coded to indicate what’s on which backup circuit, that’s how extensive it is, ffs.
Hell, I’ve been in help desks that barely burped with power outages, in the 90’s…someone really fucked up.
If it was due to a fucking data center, I will lose my fucking mind
Edit - I am not exactly sure what caused the fault after reading the article. It is explained but not clear to me
I actually had this happen in the middle of a snow and ice storm. Was having trouble breathing, doc told me to go to the ER and get checked. Had the heart attack in the ER as the power goes out and backups kick on.
“Did… did I have a stroke?”
“No, it’s cool, power just went out.”
Bonus: They couldn’t do the surgery at that hospital, had to get me to “the good one”, but the ambulances couldn’t get there because of the snow, ice and all the other emergency calls.
Day 1: Wake up, fiddling on my phone.
Nurse: “Hey, were you asleep about an hour ago?”
“Yeah, why?”
“Your heart rate was 40.”
“Is that… bad?”
Yeah, unless you’re an Olympic athelete, that’s bad.
Day 2: Wake up, fiddling on my phone.
Nurse: “Hey, were you asleep about an hour ago?”
“Yeah, why?”
“Your heart stopped for 8 seconds.”
“Ummm… ‘Thank you?’ I don’t know the correct response to ‘your heart stopped for 8 seconds’.”
I would ask someone to slap me to know if it was real or afterlife
I did ask “Did the alarms go off? I don’t remember alarms going off…”
“Oh, they go off at the nurses station.”
The alarms wouldn’t have done you any good. Your heart wasn’t even beating. Did you get a pacer or was everything cleared up after stenting?
No pacemaker, but I have an implant that monitors any more outages. There have been some minor ones, biggest was 5 seconds or so. Doc says it’s not concerning if it happens when I’m sleeping, they want to make sure it doesn’t happen when I’m awake.
And I’m like “I’m not sure of the functional difference there, but then I’m also not a cardiologist.”
Yeah that’s wild that sleeping pauses are different. Cool though you have a record of your heart stoppages.
