If you think that they’re never going to put subtle ads into LLM output

I know for a fact that the ones I’ve used have never done that. I don’t just mindlessly use them, I evaluate their output. The tech “using me” isn’t a surprise, like you single-minded ideologues think. I know what I put in and what use I’m looking to get out of it. It’s an extremely useful tool that I’m not going to discard because of angry people with shitty arguments on the internet.

These “crusades” are stupid and pointless. If YOU don’t want to use it, THEN DON’T. Get over your rampant arrogance and understand that you’re not entitled to order others around.

Bro, people are just sharing opinions on the internet. Nobody even mentioned you, let alone tried to order you to do anything or not do anything.

When we hear people criticising things that are important to us, it’s easy to react as though ‘criticising x thing = saying I’m wrong for liking that thing = criticising my judgement’, but that’s a fallacy we’ve all got to be more aware of.

People are going to say they dislike things. That’s a very central feature of humanity and free speech. And sometimes, people will have different opinions to you. That’s also a central feature of humanity.

So if you want people to be free to criticise things, and you don’t want to exist in an echo chamber of people just agreeing with whatever you say, you do actually want people to sometimes say they dislike things that you like. Where everyone falls down is: you don’t have to join every conversation that you disagree with. You don’t even have to read it.

There are entire communities full of people who dislike puppies and Ben & Jerry’s and comfy clothes. I legit think some of them are a danger to society and would be personally offended if I had to debate their reasoning. But the great thing is, I don’t have to. So I don’t. There is no benefit to anybody in me spending my time and energy arguing with weirdos that puppies are cool, apart from the social media trend of getting people addicted to rage, and I don’t really want to facilitate that.

So they can all have their weird opinions and debate then together. And I can engage in discussions that don’t upset or enrage me (most of the time. It’s a tough habit to kick).

And everyone is a little happier, except the people trying to make the western world angrier, and screw them.
