There were 2 major populations, the Boomers, who moved in when they were supposed to and settled in a big wave, and the Sooners, who moved in before they were allowed to and were already settled in the best spots when the Boomers arrived. To commemorate one of our most ethical moments of western colonization, the University of Oklahoma decided to name their mascot the Sooner.
