Garden tomatoes woke up the old memories in me of snacking on tomatoes from the garden.

It’s been great growing them as an adult!

The death of tasty tomatoes in North America drives me nuts. The ones in our garden are intense!

The apple industry figured it out - marketing new varieties for flavour, crispness, etc. Why can’t the tomato industry?

Same for citrus. I pulled an orange from a tree a few months back and it nearly brought tears to my eyes when I first tasted it. Unreal. I didn’t stop eating them until my stomach hurt. Worth it. 🤣

The good ones don’t survive shipping is why. Apples are much, much hardier.

It’s the same reason why the best quality softshell lobster is the dirt cheap garbage sold around where it’s fished up, while the less delectable hardshell is what you can get in Iowa.

This is also why canned tomatoes and tomato sauce always seem to be made exclusively of the good stuff. They build the canning facilities right next to the fields.
