As I said in my other comment, I’m not sure this show is actually supposed to be horror. If anything, it seems to be deliberately mocking some of the tropes of the genre (particularly those from the Alien franchise) by committing sins like showing the Alien running around in clearly lit areas right from the start. It feels much more like slasher - it’s not supposed to be scary, but rather entertainingly violent.

I am not really following you. Slasher movies and TV shows are a type of horror movie and TV show.

Alien 79 is a slasher flick, with a sci-fi skin. FYI Jaws is a slasher flick as well.

it’s not supposed to be scary, but rather entertainingly violent.

Well yeah, that is what all Slasher Flicks attempt to do.

I am not convinced that the show is attempting to be entertainingly violent, but for the sake of argument I will accept your position and counter that the show just isn’t pulling it off. It is really just falling flat. It sure is violent.

The show hasn’t done anything to convince me it is attempting to subvert the tropes, in any sort of creative way, I just don’t think it is that good.

So far all this show has demonstrated to me is that they are throwing a lot of shit against the wall and are waiting to see what sticks.

I suppose I just don’t consider the slasher genre scary at all, so there is a clear distinction between it and all other forms of horror. I certainly wouldn’t consider the original Alien film a slasher.
