      Agree. But a question: As someone who used Twitter for 5 minutes (and then stopped because I realized it was making me too angry), what is the mechanism of monetizing a Twitter account? Kickbacks for getting people to click links (aka advertising)?

      I’m convinced there are two appropriate ways of using the internet:

      1. Interacting with people that you personally know and have spent time with in real space. This is just keeping in touch, and might even be used to visit with them in real space in the future.

      2. Interacting with strangers, but only under the assumption that they are not given permission to meaningfully impact your emotional or mental state. If they say something stupid or hurtful, it must be allowed to roll off of you, because they might be a troll actively trying to harm you, or they might be an AI programmed to harm you. Neither is worth allowing to get under one’s skin, or to even inflate one’s sense of self, either. One wouldn’t get meaningfully pissed at a video game NPC for being mean, or proud of oneself for them liking you.

      Online relationships may supplement ones that are based in the real world, but allowing them to act as if they are real relationships is like giving bees aspartame and wondering why the hive is all fucked up.

      Unfortunately… also there is a fuckload of privatization advocates chipping away at public health. The liberals aren’t much better either. Bill C-2 is looking to be like the Canadian patriot act and we don’t even have a threat of terrorism here. So the government is becoming more and more authoritarian and chipping away at civil liberties just because.

    Don’t need location service for that, just check if the account is mostly active during st. Petersburg business hours, and inactive on Russian public holidays.

    Michael Parenti famously said, “Imperialism is when the poor people from a rich country, pay the rich people from a poor country.”

    So I guess techno-nationalism is something like: when the rich people from a rich country pay the poor people from a poor country to trick the middle class of a rich country into hating everyone from every country
