I’ve been experiencing déjà vu for about 10 years. I remember seeing a whole exam question paper, mostly in dreams or while thinking. The last thing I recall is being sentenced to death, and my friend was sentenced too. I’m scared; is this my future? Can anyone here tell me about this?
Well, I can’t tell you your future (nobody can), but I can tell you that your dreams are not an indicator for it. Rather, they’re a metaphorical representation of your past or present.
All dreams are the subconscious’ way of processing and dealing with new and/or difficult information. Whether it be fears, complex situations, muddled and convoluted feelings, these are all processed by way of the subconscious telling itself stories, trying to contextualise things through metaphors.
As such, the concrete things which happen during a dream aren’t as important as how they make you feel. I’ll try to offer some personal examples:
-
when I was little, I used to dream about hanging onto the roof of a speeding car which then braked aggressively, catapulting me into a ravine - this one was about feeling that I had no control over my life, which was generating immense anxiety in me;
-
after my first relationship of 6 years crashed and burned (ex cheated on me then dumped me over text), I dreamt that I was leaving from her folks’ place and had to put my shoes on in their yard while it was raining, and while my ex was staring at me in disgust - this was two-fold, first about the fact that I used to be a doormat in that relationship, secondly because I allowed people to treat me like crap in general while I just stood there and took it. In both cases, the disgust/disappointment was mine, aimed toward myself;
-
one of my earliest recurring dreams was a terrifying story about getting assimilated by a huge, familiar mass of Something, while being unable to do anything about it - this was about my fears of becoming like my folks;
Bottom line, try focusing on how you feel during the dream itself, as specifically as possible, and try to figure out if there’s anything in waking life that makes you feel the same.
Your examples were super relatable. I’ll definitely think more about how I feel during that.
I’m glad something resonated! Just don’t panic and take it slow. Dreams are not bad omens, they’re opportunities for introspection - if the subconscious deems it important enough to create its own stories around it then it may just be something which brings with it immense clarity when understood!
