  • Maybe it depends on the students, but based on the ones I’ve met, this couldn’t be farther from the truth. My family took a trip rafting in the Grand Canyon for 6 days in 130 degree heat. It was highly taxing on the body and you needed to be very in tune with your body during the trip to assure you didn’t get heat sickness. There were 2 people on the raft with my family serving as tour guides and experts. One was an older and very seasoned expert who knew the canyon and its history like it was their very soul. The other was a young geology student who was training to do the same. During this trip, all of us experienced the same physical challenges, but our guides were also tasked with keeping us safe and informed, setting up camp, and navigating any additional challenges that the rest of us wouldn’t be knowledgeable in. Oh and steering the fucking raft through some extremely dangerous areas that even seasoned rafters fuck up sometimes. It was a wild trip, but I’ve got a lot of props for the geologist and student that served as our guides.

  • I would say that for younger women who are still getting accustomed to their cycle and how it affects their bodies, this can be reasonable. But for seasoned women who should know how their cycle affects their bodies, it’s a rather annoying question to have to answer for literally any doctors visit. If I’m about to have a procedure, then sure they have to make certain. If they have reason to believe there is a correlation with an issue I’m having and reproductive issues, then fine also. But if I’m just coming in for a yearly exam or because I’ve had a sinus infection that won’t go away, etc, this question is pointless and quite frankly none of their business. Especially in today’s political climate in the US, I’d rather they not actively track that unless I have a specific reason to do so medically.

  • Maybe if it wasn’t such a pain in the ass to use apple TV, they could actually make some of that money back? I really wanted to see Severance and a few other things that were on apple TV. So we decided we would wait for season 1 to end so we could binge all the things we liked and then possibly explore what else they had and decide if we wanted to keep it or not. I have never been more frustrated over using a streaming service in my whole life. We were watching via browser and we tried several browsers and they all had the same problems. It just kept not registering that we were logged in and would make us go through tons of hoops to log in each time and would even lock us out of the account sometimes while attempting to log in again. For reference, this wasn’t a free trial or anything, we were paying for the service and it just didn’t work. We came back a few months later to watch season 2 and the experience was somehow worse. Nearly unusable. Why would I ever pay for that? So I think after this last try, we’re completely done with it. I loved Severance, but it’s honestly so bad that I won’t be watching season 3.

  • One story my husband shared with me was when he and my dad stopped into a local bar after working hard on home renovations all day. They planned to get some dinner and have some beer after a hard day’s work but needed to wash their very dirty hands first. So they went back into the bathroom and washed their hands. Well apparently that was too “gay” for the owner of the bar and they went over to the bathroom and started saying things like “I don’t know what you think you’re doing in there” and “I just need to make sure you’re not doing anything funny”. So they ended up just leaving while the guy yelled at them saying they had to buy something.

A slightly different version of this concept also happened to my husband. At one point, 2 of our lady friends were talking about fashion and my husband, who is MUCH more fashionable than I am, chimed in. They proceeded to tell him that he’s “not allowed to have an opinion because he’s a man” which is the most double standard bullshit I’ve ever heard come out of any of my friends mouths. It’s stuck with me for a long time now because I think it keeps me honest with myself about standards and reminds me to think about how opinions change when you flip genders.
