It’s not the guy who said it first it’s the guy who made a file format and chose a name that was the same as the peanut butter company…

Are you seriously this narcissistic that you can’t admit the way you say something is technically wrong? A product was made with a specific name and you choose to say it contrary to that way because it conveys the information it’s a perfectly acceptable way of pronouncing it but if you can’t admit that you are technically wrong in something so stupid and benign as a pronunciation of an acronym then you might have a problem.

I’ll even go first and announce to all the people on this thread that I am in facts not gods gift to the world and sometimes pronounce words differently than their correct pronunciations because the correct ones are less fun.

But if you are talking about the correct way to pronounce something shouldn’t that be the way the creator named it?

It’s like if you named your dog Aaron and they went by the name for a while and all of a sudden people start calling him Ay Ay Ron because they saw the two As and assumed that was how to pronounce it.

What pronunciation would you consider correct the one the creator came up with or the one an uninformed consensus came up with?

The U in scuba stands for underwater yet people pronounce it scOOba

The E in hepa stands for efficiency yet its pronounced HEPA with a short E

The A in nato stands for Atlantic and the O stands for organization

The first A in ASAP is for as

The Os in POTUS, SCOTUS and FLOTUS all come from of and the Us comes from United

Acronyms don’t need to sound like the word they are from

  • The “danger” comes from reliance and a misunderstanding of capabilities. It can save time and be very helpful if you use it to make a framework and then you fill in/ modify the pertinent details. If you just ask it to make a PowerPoint presentation for you about the metabolic engineering implications of agrobacterium and try and present without any proofreading you will end up spouting garbage.

So if you use it as a tool and acknowledge its limitations it’s helpful, but it is dangerous to pretend it has some semblance of real intelligence

  • Cis means same as opposed to trans which means opposite it’s commonly used to describe the shape of molecules in chemistry but is also used to say if a persons birth sex is the same (cis) or different (trans) then their gender

Het is short for hetero which means different vs homo which means the same so if you had homogenized milk it’s all uniform and the same vs a heterogenous mixture which would have some areas of extra fat. Those are used as hetero and homo sexual where a homosexual likes people of the same sex and heterosexuals like people of the opposite sex

So a cis het male is a dude whose not trans who likes banging chicks

  • If you want useful public transit then it needs to connect population centers where people are. People are lazy and don’t want to walk more than 1/2 mile to a bus stop so if you have a population density of 1000/ sq mi that means any one bus stop is only going to be able to provide adequate coverage to 250 people. With so few people per stop it needs to make a lot of stops to be useful which then makes it slow which further lowers use. At that density it also doesn’t make logical sense to have designated bus lanes so they are stuck going slow in traffic as well. So now you have an expensive system that nobody uses because it sucks

If you have higher density then you can justify more lines which makes them actually useful and can add things like light rails which really make a difference

Bike transit is usually easier in those lower density areas but due to the low density getting between places is usually a bit further away so there are usually higher speed limit roads that aren’t as good for cyclists so more expensive barriers need to be constructed or they have to follow less direct paths which causes cycling to be slow

  • As others have said

Your first point is useless, as you are saying the people who believe in something think they saw something.

The second point is the same as the first

The third point is an interesting point but they hinge on the idea that he really died and was really resurrected when even if you accept the first two points there are many other possible interpretations.

    1. he wasn’t resurrected in the sense of died and was reborn but instead it was a spiritual awakening where he meditated in a cave and returned as a spiritual leader

    2. he wasn’t really dead but was instead in some form of coma

    3. he sustained an injury that normally would kill a person but was able to shortly recover before dying for real 40 days later

    4. it wasn’t him who supposedly came back but someone imitating him

    5. it wasn’t really him who was crucified and was instead someone who pretended to be Jesus to spare him

    6. he did really die and his followers made up the story to make him seem larger and help spread his teachings

And those are just off the top of my head in a few minutes. If you want to have faith there is nothing wrong with that but considering the utter lack of tangible evidence you aren’t going to convert anyone.

  • This unfortunately is the problem with the police. People who see the police as problematic are unwilling to join so the majority of people who join are the ones who just want to have power over others.

There are many variations on the quote but a cop who doesn’t report a bad cop is themselves a bad cop, so you could be the actual good cop who reports their coworkers until you get fired from the corrupt org but if enough people did that we might actually see some change.

Cops also have a surprising amount of freedom to choose to enforce laws so you could also just not enforce laws you consider corrupt.

I am saying this as a person who wouldn’t want to associate with a cop but would love to have some cops who aren’t bastards but unfortunately #ACAB
