4·11 days agoIf the worst happened, Greenland would put Canada in a chokehold, isolated from European aid. Canada, the country with lots of oil that the US has threatened countless times.

Canada@lemmy.ca•Union demands Canada Post return to bargaining or it will 'consider stronger actions'
2·4 months agoI’m not sure the org as a whole could survive another strike
There is an easy solution: pay them fairly and give them fair working conditions. That would guarantee that no strike happens.
The corporation has chosen to lose far more money than if they had just given them their reasonable demands. Blame the fat cats at the top, not the thousands of working class people trying to get their fair bit. The fact that it’s disruptive is all the more reason why they should just give them fair wages and solve the problem. But instead they don’t even show up to the bargaining table.

Canada@lemmy.ca•Liberals promise to build nearly 500,000 homes per year, create new housing entity
0·10 months agoThe fact that they’re creating a crown corporation to build homes on public and private land is huge. This includes prefab and modular homes too. They’re even committing to using Canadian lumber.
We cannot contunue to rely on capitulating to and deregulating private developers and expecting them to act in any way other than own self-interest. They have no incentive to bring down the cost of homes. It is now crystal clear that the neo-liberal solution does not work.
A crown corporation that exists to create housing rather than maximize shareholder value is a massive step in the right direction. Frankly, I’m surprised Carney is doing this but happy about it all the same.
I expect Carney to get pushback from Doug Ford who is firmly in the pocket of private real estate investors.

Canada@lemmy.ca•Carney kills consumer carbon tax in first move as prime minister
0·11 months agoIt was kill the carbon tax or get Poilievre. Carbon taxes work and it’s a shame that all the propagandised conservatives made carbon tax political suicide but here we are. I’d still take this over PP who wouldn’t stop at the carbon tax.
