Kinda excited for this, I actually loved the Friday the 13th game. The way voice chat worked made for some great immersion and role playing. And I love the Halloween series.
Die4Ever@retrolemmy.comto Games@sh.itjust.works•Introducing Advanced Shader DeliveryEnglish61·3 days agowill make its debut on the new ROG Xbox Ally and ROG Xbox Ally X.
Advanced shader delivery addresses one of the most frustrating challenges for PC gamers today – long load times and disruptive stuttering during a game’s first launch. These delays are caused by the need to compile graphics shaders and cache them for future use.
While we’re currently focused on supporting the launch of the ROG Xbox Ally and ROG Xbox Ally X, we’re excited to share that we’re releasing an AgilitySDK in September. This will provide both developers and gaming storefronts with the initial set of tools and APIs needed to expand this functionality across the industry.
We’re also continuing to collaborate with our hardware partners to grow the number of devices that will be able to support advanced shader delivery. Stay tuned for more details on device expansion in September.
I guess this is like what Steam Deck has already been doing. I wonder how long it will take them to bring it to desktops, and if it will work on Win10 or only Win11
Die4Ever@retrolemmy.comto Fediverse@lemmy.world•Is the amount of Lemmy activity declining?English2·3 days agoPeople always complain about this but Lemmy does actually combine crossposts in your feed. What frontend are you using? Or maybe it’s just bugged? If someone can figure out the bug and how to reproduce it, it needs to be submitted to GitHub.
Here’s a reference to the feature, a fixed bug, disabling the deduplication for a single community view https://github.com/LemmyNet/lemmy-ui/issues/2104#issuecomment-2316048658

Die4Ever@retrolemmy.comto PC Gaming@lemmy.ca•First time playing the original Deus Ex!English2·4 days agoIt’s not impossible or unreasonable. But I think the game is most fun when you play a mix of stealth and shooting, depending on situations, especially as your character gets stronger.

Die4Ever@retrolemmy.comto PC Gaming@lemmy.ca•First time playing the original Deus Ex!English3·4 days agoIf you really want to go full vanilla, I noticed you’re on Linux so it actually runs ok there. But you’ll still want Vanilla Fixer for the more modern renderer, launcher, and high frame rate fix.
https://mods4ever.com/project/DXRVanillaFixer
There are some huge bugs in the vanilla game though (Vanilla Fixer only does compatibility fixes not gameplay fixes). For example if you start a new game while in a game your inventory will become seriously broken. Before starting a new game you either need to restart the program, or enter the training first and start the new game from there (because starting training clears your inventory).
Also vanilla does NOT have autosave. When the game says SAVING when traveling maps that’s actually only for the purpose of traveling back to the old maps and you cannot load from that if you die. Get used to that quicksave button or rebind it, but also make hard saves just in case!
Also vanilla will not allow you to save during infolinks (radio calls). Not a huge deal for a first time playthrough if you aren’t rushing.
Die4Ever@retrolemmy.comto PC Gaming@lemmy.ca•First time playing the original Deus Ex!English2·4 days agoIt’s just random. When zoomed in, I believe the sway will pick a random direction to sway in and a random number of milliseconds to wait before picking a new random sway direction. But without a scope it’s just full random at the time of firing.
Die4Ever@retrolemmy.comto PC Gaming@lemmy.ca•First time playing the original Deus Ex!English3·5 days agoIt’s based on the weapon skills. Definitely play the Training
Die4Ever@retrolemmy.comto PC Gaming@lemmy.ca•First time playing the original Deus Ex!English6·5 days agoGMDX has a huge number of gameplay and balance changes. Here are some of them: https://deusex.fandom.com/wiki/Give_Me_Deus_Ex_(Mod)
https://videogamegeek.com/thread/1831032/review-of-gmdx-mod-which-aims-at-modernizing-deus
I can try to grab some excerpts without spoilers…
GMDX offers new player mechanics, refined AI behavior, reworked weapon mechanics, rebalanced RPG elements, enhanced artistic direction, expanded level design, overhauled audio design, new interactions and simulated effects, improved user interface, and hundreds of bug fixes.
Messing with the design of Deus Ex may quickly hurt the experience. And that is what GMDX does.
In early areas, the changes that GMDX makes are minor, which is the reason for my early positive feeling on GMDX. In later areas, however, there are radical changes. The aim seems to have been to increase the difficulty. And it succeeds at that: the difficulty of GMDX is certainly quite a lot higher than the difficulty of Deus Ex. But higher difficulty does not make for a better game. That is particularly true because of the reasons why the game is more difficult with GMDX.
