That might be true but basing any kind of legislation on uninformed opinions and emotive nonsense like this story is very dangerous.

The problem isn’t really us believing it, it’s the tabloid reading morons who will believe it and will be front of the line to call for action about it on top of all the other ridiculous things AI is supposedly responsible for. And it is these morons who ruin everything for everyone else, an example is the current “think of the kids” line that has caused the UK to sink into a privacy nightmare.
