  • In that universe, humans also have FTL travel and colonies on hundreds of planets, yet have mysteriously lost the arcane technology known as “email” and require everything to be done in person.

Also most of the colonies are either one family living alone on a distant space rock, or abandoned military outposts full of an inexplicable amount of space pirates, and somehow the two rarely interact.

And humans didn’t destroy earth with climate change, instead the FTL drives they invented blew away the atmosphere… somehow. Yet this is a secret protected by big engine or some shit, because every other habitable planet still lets everyone use their FTL drives near the planet anyway.

    God that game sucks.

  • I actually love doing appliance repair as side jobs. Most of the time it’s a cheap part that I have on hand and it’s a quick fix.

Unfortunately, just my hourly rate usually makes some people second guess if it’s a good idea, which is fair, because manufacturers have made their products so bare bones and cheap that is often cheaper to buy a new one then have someone diagnose and repair it. It’s a real shame, because you do end up with literal tons of equipment that gets scrapped every day because of a 10 dollar relay or capacitor that went bad.

  • I mean, I fix my own fridges and appliances and do small appliance work for my friends and neighbors, but I already own the required tools so I’m really just charging for some time and the refrigerant.

134a is still cheap, and no company worth their salt should be charging a fee to customers so that specialized tools can be purchased. If you don’t own the tools of the trade, that’s a company problem, not a customer problem.

3000 dollars was a “I don’t want to do it price”

For people I don’t know, I do charge about 300 bucks to just show up, because that covers operating costs and an hour of my time. But unless the system was pulling into a vacuum, it shouldn’t take longer than an hour or so to recover the refrigerant, patch the leak, pull a vacuum, and recharge. So yeah, if your fridge is only worth 500 bucks, it’s not worth it. But if it’s an expensive fridge it might be worth it to find an appliance technician that will charge you a fair rate to repair the damage.

  • All MBAs and CEOs are like puppies chasing their own tails.

They want the growth because number go up good. They’ll do anything for number go up. And when number go up, they get the good and then they need to focus on next number go up.

They have no long term plan other than number go up. For the next few quarters, they can slap AI on anything and number go up. What happens if AI takes all the non manual labor jobs? Or if it turns out AI is useless and they wasted billions on snake oil? They don’t know, cause they were thinking about number go up right now, not number go up later.

    Our economy is a farce.

  • I would love to hear the teenagers’ side of the story here.

Big Balls claims he was just out with his girlfriend at 3 in the morning when a group of teens tried to car jack him. Police take a photo of Big Balls with a broken nose and covered in his own blood, and then arrest 2 teenagers.

Suspiciously, there is not a single piece of evidence this shit actually happened outside of that one photo of an idiot covered in his own blood. I have not been able to find security camera or body cam footage of the alleged attack or any groups of teens fleeing the cops.

Apparently the teens beat him up and then just waited for the cops to show up? How does that make sense?

An alternative scenario is that a privileged nepo baby was out with a girl, some teens saw him and said “holy shit it’s big balls” went up to talk to a living meme, startled the sheltered lil baby, and he started a fight he couldn’t win, then called the cops after he realized his big balls were just a name he made up on the internet.
