Sure, a relative of mine was an ex-sailor and he pulled up maps of how many ships on average passed in a given area per year and then he divided it by the number of reported incidents. Demonstrating that the Bermuda Triangle had slightly less things go wrong compared to the ocean as a whole. Which he speculated was because everyone knows that hurricanes are a thing and the presence of the US coast guard.

It didn’t even take him that long. I got into a thing with him about it and about an hour on the computer later he had the numbers to back it up.

I remember getting really into it and then afterwards seeing a really good debunking. It still bothers me how people can knowingly lie for small amounts of money or a bit of reputation.

Not to be that guy but I am betting it is more likely that somehow he didn’t see that happening vs the almost certain suicide attempt he thinks he saw.

As I said it doesn’t matter and I am tired of pretending otherwise. Just pick a book that agrees with what you think already and read it. We are a post-truth society. You read his alternative history because you wanted confirmation now you want other books that also confirm you. Since the plural of anecdotes is data, the plural of opinion is alternative facts, the plural of lies is our truth.

Might be local government. Me and sales have this argument pretty often

Me: it is in the spec

Sales: no one noticed it except you

Me: thanks?

Sales: no one is going to care

Me: then take it out of the spec and resign everything.

Sales: why are you making a big deal about this?

Me: because it is in the spec that we signed and if we don’t honor the spec they can backcharge us.

Sales: that won’t happen

Me: you are right because we are going to follow the spec. If you don’t want me to please email me, the department head, and the client specifically ordering me not to follow the contract that we signed.

I worked for a company like that. Wall Street shits bought us up and sold everything that wasn’t bolted down.
