Ah yes, Eisenhower, famously a good guy for running fucking Operation Wetback.

I think you nailed it with the Firefly quote. I’ve always loved that one.
Even if our movements don’t succeed, I want to be able to say that I did my part and didn’t go down without a fight.
The ‘if’ in ‘if the SAVE Act goes through’ is doing a lot of work. The recent bill that was passed was only able to be done through budget reconciliation, because you only need 50 votes plus the VP to break the tie. But for bills outside of budget reconciliation, you need 60 votes to end the filibuster. Barring anything unforeseen (recognizing that breaking norms is the norm for this administration), there’s no way I could see it getting through the Senate.
Is the protective order to protect you from someone, or is it meant to protect someone from you (unjustly, it would seem you’re saying)?
And I understand it’s frustrating to feel like people aren’t giving you the help you’re looking for. But I think the folks saying “I am not a lawyer, and you need a lawyer” are just trying to be responsible, because especially when it comes the law, being or having a relevant expert is important.
Cool. Elections are administered by the states though, and my state guarantees mail-in ballots in the constitution. Sooooo, good luck with that, I suppose?
Could you teach a cat to use a train? Like, imagine you had a bunch of time and money, and make a miniature subway system, complete with stops. And then you somehow teach the cat how to tell one stop from the other. Would it actually eventually understand and ride it?
Will do, sorry about that! I’m usually on mobile, so I don’t see sidebars a lot of the time
No, it’s around a 45% hike. If you go by the total cost for each, it’s a 59.48% increase. But that ignores that the package on the right weighs more to start with - 4.88 lbs vs 4.48 lbs. If you compare the unit prices, the increase from $10.99 to $15.99 per lb is really 45.5%.
Yeah, I agree that the left and liberals are broadly opposed to AI, and the right dove in headfirst. I just don’t get how lacking the ability to spew shitty cat videos and deepfakes means we on the left are hampering our own progress.
Falling behind in what way? Financial advantage? I’m not sure that the left have ever had that. How would adopting AI aid the left’s cause?
What if I want a bunch of people to be able to log into my library via Finamp?
Thanks for the tip! I’ll back the refresh rate off to be safe.
I’m not sure I entirely understand your concern about putting Jellyfin on the internet. A large part of my interest in selfhosting is being able host my own music library, my own cloud storage, etc, and access it as an alternative to Spotify or Google Drive. Doesn’t that inherently mean that they need to be on the internet, if I want to be able to access them when I’m away from home?
My goal has been to find a way to do that safely, but if that’s not possible, that’s good to know too, so I don’t keep trying to do the impossible.
Why is that?
Getting qualified as an electrician is not a simple undertaking. That would be beginning an entirely different career path. Not to dissuade from it, but it’s not the kind of thing you can just do on the side like tending bar.
It’s also worth considering that many people change career paths entirely, even after getting degrees in one field. A bachelors degree, more than anything, demonstrates that you are able to be taught and you can complete a long term, self directed project. Exactly what you get a degree in matters, but maybe not as much as you’d think, especially if you broaden your studies with taking a minor, or volunteering, or doing internships.
Well, for me personally, since I’m an anarchist, I’d rather have neither. Power corrupts, and giving too much unchecked power to any individual will lead to harm. Even FDR, one of America’s “best” presidents, also oversaw redlining and the Japanese internment camps.
