SavvyWolf@pawb.socialto Mental Health@lemmy.world•Why do people say "suicide is a permanent solution to a **temporary problem**"? But then I look up "is depression cureable" and its says "no". 🙃English111·11 days agoDepression can’t be fully “cured”, but it can be managed. And as people get better at managing it, they get better at dealing with the hopelessness and despair.
The despair comes in waves; handling depression is about pulling yourself out of that temporary hole rather than giving up.
SavvyWolf@pawb.socialto Mental Health@lemmy.world•Anyone got anything they wanna talk about?English8·12 days agoComing to terms with the fact that all the hyperconsevative puritanical bullshit happening nowadays is having an affect on me. I feel guilty for enjoying things and the cop in my head is saying I shouldn’t be doing them.
SavvyWolf@pawb.socialto Linux Gaming@lemmy.world•Watched a video about Debian and now I am not sure is the best for me.English2·12 days agoIf you’re currently running on LMDE and are enjoying it, why not just switch to the “vanilla” non-debian Mint? It should be similar enough to what you’re used to, but with more up to date software.
SavvyWolf@pawb.socialto Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Android app apk checker/download serverEnglish1·13 days agoThe problem is checking for malware: It’s very hard to do that and a lot of malware has evolved attempts to avoid detection.
SavvyWolf@pawb.socialto Linux Gaming@lemmy.world•What is stopping someone from creating a keylogger disguised as a typing game and uploading on Steam?English21·16 days agoAs I understand it, Steam has a report feature on their store page for reporting games. Presumably that goes to a person that looks at it.
I think to upload games to Steam you also need to prove your identity. Which means if you do upload malware, then it’s easy to track you down.
Of course, that takes time and things can slip through the cracks. Steam games are still full programs that run on your computer and can do anything a regular program can do, there’s no sandboxing.
Treat them like you would apps on the Google Play store; assume that they’re mostly safe but also give additional scrutiny to ones with low review counts or AI generated images.
SavvyWolf@pawb.socialto Programmer Humor@programming.dev•Child labour with 10 years of experience, 'AI-native' accepting 250k lines of Cursor codeEnglish1·22 days ago“Hey kid, hold still while we throw some fake money on you and take a photo. It’s for marketing.”
Got curious about this.
One notable difference between X11 and W3C is the case of “Gray” and its variants. In HTML, “Gray” is specifically reserved for the 128 triplet (50% gray) . However, in X11, “gray” was assigned to the 190 triplet (74.5%) , which is close to W3C “Silver” at 192 (75.3%) , and had “Light Gray” at 211 (83%) and “Dark Gray” at 169 (66%) counterparts. As a result, the combined CSS 3.0 color list that prevails on the web today produces “Dark Gray” as a significantly lighter tone than plain “Gray” , because “Dark Gray” was descended from X11 – for it did not exist in HTML nor CSS level 1[8] – while “Gray” was descended from HTML.
Main.
Don’t get me wrong, the whole debate is Microsoft just being performative (why not use your vast wealth to actually help people?). But honestly, putting the debate aside, “main” is just a clearer and more intuitive name.
SavvyWolf@pawb.socialto Selfhosted@lemmy.world•How to combat large amounts of Ai scrapersEnglish1·2 months agoI’ve seen people suggesting and using Anubis, haven’t used it myself though.
Hey, you should be careful around Ubuntu fans. They might just snap.
NetCat. /s
Seriously though, I just use Firefox. LibreWolf is basically Firefox with stricter defaults, and over the years I’ve already tweaked Firefox to use all the privacy features anyway.
I know there’s some extra sauce implemented in LibreWolf that Firefox lacks, but that stuff seems like too much of a compromise for me (like canvas fingerprinting).
Plus, I think orange looks nicer in my window list than blue.
I also don’t use tor or a vpn unless I can’t access anything otherwise. I guess I don’t really see the need to, since I don’t think I’m doing anything that’ll draw the government’s attention.
TBF, they could probably make the “releases” page more prominent rather than having it buried in all the “code” stuff.
Oh is that what it is…
