  • I was out of work for over a year and jobs have been coming in again since two months. The many indications that this unholy shit bubble is finally bursting has me smiling, dancing and singing “The robot is dead, the robot is dead!”. I hate the AI hype with a passion, not just because of my work, but because of the ghastly slop we’re being exposed to everywhere online. I hope it disappears quickly into the same hole NFTs when to fuck off into.

Now before the billionaires come up with the next stupid hype can we at least eat a few of them?

  • Yes I will fucking freak out. The planet is on fucking fire, people can’t afford basic groceries, species are dying - and some idiots insist in spending water, using energy and stealing people’s works using some fascist tech-bro’s doombot because AI is supposedly fun or convenient. I hate AI with a passion for all the reasons reasonable people keep explaining again, and again, and again: the environment, the copyright, the dark fascist agenda behind it. Soon enough I’ll lose patience with stupid AI bros who are going ‘but it’s just harmless fun’ and just screech into their ears at full volume in a last desperate attempt to wake up their shrinking GPTchat-fucked brains.

  • A lot of fermented stuff like bread, cheese, wine and beer most likely started as “stuff forgotten in a pot” - not very complicated. In case of bread you need: two stones for milling the grain, a pot to mix it with water and store it, and then a fire to bake it. Not medieval tech, but way earlier.

Beer has been known since at least the bronze age, there are recipes known today, but the initial stage was, yet again, mill some grain, mix with water, forget in a pot.

Wine: forget some fruit in a pot.

Source: Reading history, plus my ADHD brain keeps forgetting stuff in the kitchen. I accidentally invented soda one of these days, because sometimes the forgotten stuff gets fizzy, too (you do need to invent the hermetically closing jar for that though, open clay pot doesn’t work in that case)!

Btw one of my crazier theories (although I’m not the only person considering it) is that it wasn’t us domesticating the world, but that we were domesticated by yeast. So it was inevitable that we kept producing vessels and feeding the fungus with sugar in ever more refined ways. Fungus wants to grow.

Oh, and I’ve also just found out that Canva, a very popular poster generator, seems to be heavily relying on AI and people have absolutely no idea and tell me “But why, I wasn’t using AI, I’m using Canva” when I complain about their slop images.

Thanks for doing this, I thought I was going insane to have even Lemmy flooded with oh so much slop.

I could do with some help - my latest little crusade is to call out AI slop on facebook and youtube whenever I encounter it, and explain to the poster and commenters why I unfollow anyone who uses AI generated images or text, and why others should do so as well. This is mostly geared towards people who post educational stuff with positive intention but have no idea that using AI is awful and wrong.

To do this I want to use an easily recognizable image (hand drawn of course), but I’ve realized that many people simply don’t understand at all why AI is evil. I’d also need a link to some article or other information that explains it in really simple terms for non-tech people - if any of you good people happen to know of any material I could use please post a link.
