Fortnite? My kids don’t play it anymore, I don’t know.

Technology@lemmy.zip•Instagram boss: 16 hours of daily use is not addictionEnglish
32·10 days agoHis argument is: 16 hours daily use is not addiction IF THAT IS THE ONLY FACTOR. He repeats it again and again. But that argument is stupid, because it ignores the other well-known and proven variables of addiction. Does this behavior have serious effects on your mental and physical health? Does it interrupt your work and play? Do you have an obsessive need to do it? The list goes on.
Who put this genius in front of a microphone?
I didn’t even know that was a possibility. That’s cool.
You don’t have to play daily to keep up the streak, you just have to get 0 stars or more (complete the puzzle). If you take a week off and come back and don’t lose, you continue the streak.
I don’t know how going back to old puzzles changes the streak.
I had no idea. I’ll make pizzas for dinner tonight!

Television@piefed.social•Is Star Trek Discovery worth a go if I liked Picard and like Strange New Worlds?English
4·23 days agoHave you watched any other Trek besides those two? If not, you’ll probably enjoy Discovery.
I tried to get into Discovery when it first aired, coming from being steeped in the TNG era shows. It was not the Trek I was used to and I felt it didn’t show reverence for the franchise. Now that Academy is out, though, I’m planning to rewatch and finish Discovery.
Good work!
I thought this was a tough one.
I thought today’s puzzle (1463) was difficult, too: not a lot of hints.

AntiTrumpAlliance@lemmy.world•Trump FCC threatens to enforce equal-time rule on late-night talk showsEnglish
10·1 month agoI see this as mostly unenforceable. Conservative pundits are invited to mainstream shows all the time and simply refuse to leave their bubble. Similarly, conservative talk shows do not invite dissenting opinions to their shows, it’s just not how the broadcasters have designed their “infotainment” networks. They aren’t trying to actually debate, they are trying to sell certain viewpoints and hot takes that keep people watching.
Conservative pundits would be eviscerated on regular programming; it’s why they don’t do those shows.

politics @lemmy.world•Five Years Later, It’s Clear Jan 6 (and Trump) Broke AmericaEnglish
60·2 months agoThose of us possibly even older may point to the repeal of the Fairness Doctrine in '87. From Wikipedia, the fairness doctrine “required the holders of broadcast licenses both to present controversial issues of public importance and to do so in a manner that fairly reflected differing viewpoints.” In short, it’s repeal paved the way for Fox News and led all the way to CBS under Weiss.
But to your point, there are 3 things on my platform that I tell anyone who wants to hear it. 3 actionable items:
- Reinstate the Fairness Doctrine.
- Repeal the Patriot Act.
- Overturn Citizens United.
I didn’t say it would be easy.
I agree, which is why I don’t see why people are saying the answer is 16. You add in the parentheses, you multiply, then you divide. The answer is 1.
This left-to-right business linked below is complete nonsense when it comes to equations. That’s how westerners read books, but not how math is communicated. Am I that old? Like Mr. Incredible said, did they change math!?!
What do we say to the god of death? Not today,

From SCOTUSblog,
“Based on two words separated by 16 others in … IEEPA—‘regulate’ and ‘importation’—the President asserts the independent power to impose tariffs on imports from any country, of any product, at any rate, for any amount of time,” Chief Justice John Roberts wrote. “Those words,” he continued, “cannot bear such weight.” “IEEPA,” Roberts added, “contains no reference to tariffs or duties.” Moreover, “until now no President has read IEEPA to confer such power.”
“Justice Brett Kavanaugh wrote the main dissent, which was joined by Justices Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito.”
