  • Heck yeah!

A very good friend gifted me one when he upgraded to the oled model, and it totally brought back my love of gaming. I hadn’t really been able to because of health issues, what with not being able to stay at my desk very long.

But this sucker? It’s running everything I’ve thrown at it so far. Baldur’s gate 3, and 2. Genshin. Stuff like stardew valley.

The worst one to get set up was genshin because they insist on having their own launcher. Makes updates a pain in the ass. Luckily, I don’t play it often, so I don’t care much lol.

I can be in bed, on the couch, even in the john if I want to, and enjoy the hell out of the experience. Worst case, I might have to fiddle with settings if the game doesn’t have native controller support, or piddle with stuff like heroic or lutris if a game is pissy installing.

  • Yeah, molle rocks. The bag I had when I was working, I kept gloves and wipes in two front pouches I could swap out fast. I’d have multiples prepped so I could grab and go, stick them on and be out the door faster. Super nice when I would have multiple patients and something messy happened, or I’d need to resupply at home. Take care of the prep once a week or so assembly line style and spend less time not getting paid to do work stuff.

Baby supplies are really similar, and a parent of an infant is going to have similar time issues (for different reasons).

    Modularity is awesome.

  • Heh, good one.

Legit though, I used to have to carry similar supplies (minus the actual diapers and infant) for my job, and it was really hard to find things that were durable, well compartmentalized, had good capacity and could be cleaned relatively easy.

Towards the end of my working years, that kind of “military inspired” stuff started showing up, and it really did beat the pants off of other options I had been using.

It was super nice to be able to really organize all the ppe, wipes, gloves, spare pads, etc I had to tote around to patients. Not that nothing else worked, it just didn’t work as well.

I felt like a moron with the whole tacticool vibe, but not enough to switch back lol

Well, other than it being all tacti-cool in aesthetics, standard baby gear is not as well arranged as what’s in the picture.

That gear in the pic would let you carry the baby stuff with your hands free and able to actually take care of an infant out and about. Waaay better than the usual shoulder sling or backpack options, and absurdly better than the kinds meant to be carried by hand.

There’s a reason surplus gear used to be wildly popular. It was mostly designed to work. It would be better than what you could get outside of a surplus store, even when what you were getting was years out of date and current issue was better. With companies making stuff that’s built with stuff like molle in mind, following principles that make what’s being carried leave hands free but be reasonably accessible, shit just works better, even though it looks ugly.

If I’m toting an infant around, I don’t need pretty, I need comfortable and capable.

  • All I can say is that people be trippin. When I have asked people why they call them that, the usual is “I dunno, I guess they look like pumpkins, that’s just what my family called them, so I do too”.

I suspect that it comes down to nobody really remembering why a bug is called its colloquial name, nor bothering to ask or explain, and after while, the mistake becomes the norm. Kids mislabel stuff a lot, and spread things faster than they do germs. Easy for weird things to slip in.

  • We didn’t have a single term around here.

Most common was punkin bug, or pumpkin bug for you damn yankees.

But, roly-poly, tomato bug, and pill bug were all in common usage.

What’s interesting to me is that they were also called doodle bugs, despite a completely different bug also being called that. Doodle bug is also used for ant lions around here; indeed, that’s what they’re called almost exclusively.

They were both called that for the same reason, the little doodly tracks they leave in fine sand and soil, though if a punkin bug is on that, they’re going elsewhere because they don’t really like those conditions.

  • Aight, just a bit of background first.

Back in that era, there was a hip-hop subgenre called miami bass. There was an offshoot of that called booty bass. The difference is largely in the degree of rap over the beats, and the nature of the beats. This only matters because Miami at that time was pumping out some serious club bangers. Shit you could really dance to, but would also rattle windows blocks away when played loud.

Da dip was booty bass and a dance song. Like the twist, the macarena, the watusi, the tootsie roll, and other dance fads, the songs were meant to be danced to by the very dance the song was about.

Da dip is basically a modified grind. I put my hand upon your hip (literally), then I dip, you dip, we dip. Dipping in this context is better shown than described.

It’s a dance simple enough even drunks, and white kids, can do it; but it’s able to be elaborated on by more advanced dancers. Taken to an extreme, it runs fairly close to dirty dancing ala the movie of the same name. It’s all hips and grinding of groins. In it’s simplest version, it’s a couples oriented version of a line dance.

And yes, you would indeed see people doing da dip. Not as popular as just straight up grinding on someone, but it definitely showed up when the song played, and when similar booty bass tracks would. It required less coordination than the tootsie roll or the butterfly for sure, so it saw a short degree of popularity.

  • My dude. That kind of thinking is exactly why women need their own spaces.

You may not realize it, or have ever examined yourself, but you just expressed misogyny in a mild form here, where you have had every chance to pick and choose how you say things to support your opinion that the reason given for the bans was unjustified.

It’s okay for a given group to have their own spaces without intrusion. A gay men’s space should absolutely be able to exclude women and straight men. A straight men’s space should be able to exclude gay men and women.

The only time having dedicated spaces is a problem is when every space is dominated by a single group. And that’s just not the case with a women only space. To the contrary, women struggle to have their voices heard in open spaces where everyone is allowed specifically because men dominate those spaces.

If you, as a man, went and ignored a clearly visible community rule, you absolutely deserve a ban from that community. As well, the fact that you’d blatantly ignore a clearly visible rule in community is a damn good indicator that you think you’re above rules, which means that a mod preemptively banning you from other communities ceases to be an over reaction.

So, I’m going to be harsh as hell in this. You stated that you knew the rule and ignored it. That means you’re either an arrogant asshole, or a petulant child. Neither of which is a good look when trying to claim a mod behaved badly.
