Sightings of drones around Fort McNair, the Army base where Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Secretary of State Marco Rubio live, have prompted consideration of deploying the new technology.

    Whether it’s intentional or not…

This likely going to lead to them shooting it a civilian aircraft, causing a crash, and then trying to blame it on an attack to justify canceling midterms.

I don’t think they’re powerful enough to take down anything bigger than a drone.

You can absolutely cause catastrophic damage to a commercial airliner with lasers that are designed to melt drone components.

Just aim it at the engine intake, something will deform or melt due to temperature, and in a second or two, you’ve got a first stage compressor that’s eating itself.

Or if you want to fuck with control authority, melt parts of the elevators while it’s coming in for landing so they lose pitch control. Which is, you know, kind of important.

Gonna be really funny when they use it and close the airspace for hours. Good thing DC’s airspace isn’t that busy, I’m sure it’ll handle that shock well.
