Lmao it’s the third guy out in 12 months, France is doing great keeping the far right out of power and that’s literally all I care about.
Lmao it’s the third guy out in 12 months,
Yes, that’s… kind of the problem.
France is doing great keeping the far right out of power and that’s literally all I care about.
The issue is that France did so by making a coalition with the left-wing - which is good!
And then immediately after the election turning around and making a coalition with the right-wing. Which is bad.
Now Macron’s centrists are in a position where they can’t offer any more concessions to the right without tanking themselves, and the left doesn’t trust them without receiving major concessions that the centrists are not willing to give.
When the next election rolls around, what are the chances, you think, of the left making an alliance with the centrists again, after doing so in good faith last time and seeing the centrists make an alliance with the right-wing after the election was over and the danger had passed?
Depends on how well they remember the 1930s. I just think collapsing is the wrong word, and apparently it’s the word every single news outlet is running with.
It implies France is failing to function as a nation, when nothing could be further from the truth.
It’s common in parliamentary systems to describe the ruling coalition (‘the government’) dissolving under unfavorable circumstances as the government ‘collapsing’, it’s just an accepted nomenclature.
What?
The president is an extreme capitalist, fascist, far-right sympathizer, who has brought the far right closer to power than anyone else ever has, he made a government filled with politicians that range from strong rightists to full-on nazis, and you’re saying that the far right is out of power?
Don’t start saying nonsense, please.
Emmanuel Macron is socially liberal and progressive and started this game of musical chairs right after the Far Right made gains in Germany as a way to limit their power in the EU as a whole.
He cares about education and climate change which is enough for me to forgive many of his less popular policies, the vast majority of nations would be lucky to have a leader like him.
Calling him progressive is a stretch by a wide margin. He literally refuses to work with the left and will make deals with the right just to spite them.
France is the most recognizable country in terms of tackling climate change, they’re the only modern nation implementing “fuck cars” civic planning, and when they hosted the olympics they held a drag show.
Idk what you consider progressive but Macron can’t be that bad of a leader if the results are Americans fleeing the establishing right wing dictatorship to go to France in droves.
Macron is rightist leaning far-right.
America’s “left” is easily as far to the right as him. The fact that the US is worse doesn’t change the political state of France, and if you start defending far-right politicians because “these other ones are worse” that’s how you end up with a nazi government.
Macron openly and illegally hired a friend, gave him a lot of illegal access to a lot of places, and this friend illegally wore a cop outfit and went in protests to beat up people for fun. Macron’s reaction was “come get me”. Macron’s government openly said during the worse of covid, when conspiracy theories were starting to grow, that wearing a mask was dangerous. Macron commented about the colonial past of France “We were never thanked”. Macron said that he believes a president should be “jupiterian”, which in more clear terms means a dictator. Macron repeatedly called people who criticize Israel, defend Palestine, or simply oppose genocide, antisemitic. Macron pushed for years the idea of money “trickling down” as a justification to give more government money to companies; as a result, rich became richer and poor became poorer.
And that’s just a few points, without even expanding on the government he picked who is made of a bunch of far right rapists and thieves.
If this is progressive to you, then that explains why the world is going to shit.
Aaah I see the disconnect.
You think expanding healthcare as a human right, taxing the rich, and green energy are all right wing.
Hear hear. I get what the other guy is saying but now isn’t time to draw those lines. And yes it also wasn’t in 2016, or 2020, or 2024, the last good shot was 2008 and before that prior the Clinton era.
Once the rich take over and turn it all into corpo states it’s all over, and as it stands any actual left wing policies are massively unpopular or cannot win election systems and we have no way to change those systems to be more representative. Enemy of my enemy is my friend.
