    Yes, that’s… kind of the problem.

    France is doing great keeping the far right out of power and that’s literally all I care about.

    The issue is that France did so by making a coalition with the left-wing - which is good!

    And then immediately after the election turning around and making a coalition with the right-wing. Which is bad.

    Now Macron’s centrists are in a position where they can’t offer any more concessions to the right without tanking themselves, and the left doesn’t trust them without receiving major concessions that the centrists are not willing to give.

    When the next election rolls around, what are the chances, you think, of the left making an alliance with the centrists again, after doing so in good faith last time and seeing the centrists make an alliance with the right-wing after the election was over and the danger had passed?
