Today we are riding the Safe-T-Ride in Leesburg, Virginia. This bus runs every half hour and was created... so people don't have to cross the street. Because...
Because fuck your time if you just want to cross the road, I guess.
And the people that live in wealthy US places like that come to Europe and fawn over our cities, towns and villages. They know there is another way and then just… don’t.
And when they return home they go full NIMBY, protest and cry that public transit will bring homelessness and gangs, walkable cities are crime ridden hell holes and the only real way to live is in massive suburban sprawl with 3 SUVs in the driveway and the nearest grocery uber Walmart 20 minutes down the highway.
The oil/car lobby destroyed so much quality of life. I’m so grateful for the turnaround most places around me are taking… Highways in city centres are being converted to parks, rivers are being opened up again, and if I’m not mistaken that isn’t happening only in Europe.
To me, wealth is being able to live your life in a green environment, healthy, with no pollution, being able to bike anywhere, eat healthily; with corporations having no power; being able to vote freely and fairly, and if it goes wrong, you have the knowledge that you won’t get arrested but will receive help to get back on track; and all that without an extensive surveillance police state.

Depressing.

There is still hope for the States too!
Their places aren’t wealthy.

In short, everything the US isn’t.
