Notepad now supports AI features like Summarize, Write, and Rewrite on Copilot+ PCs, with no subscription required. If you have a subscription, you can seamlessly switch between local and cloud models based on your needs. If you’re not signed in or don’t have a subscription, you can use the local model to accomplish your tasks. For now, these features support English only, making premium AI more accessible and flexible for everyone.

Well yeah, because notepad did one thing well. Now it doesn’t.

I just spent a good portion of my day today fixing stupid crap an AI had put into documents that a person was trying to use. It was wrong, so damn wrong. Like usual.

Being basically a scratch pad. For anything more I have software to do that.

They ruined it by changing the way it saves.

Then bloated it with crap nobody (except apparently you) want. They also introduced a LOT of new bugs.

They changed the save to auto store. Super annoying now. If I wanted to keep it I would save it. Now I have extra clicks.

I am not the only user that pastes things there to look at or temporarily copy from. A lot of people I know are annoyed. Could I turn it off? I don’t know maybe, but there are better options now anyways.

Kate works on windows and edit is coming back so notepad just gets removed.
