    This show…

The kid cyborgs are…ok. I am beyond baffled that anyone would send all five of them into a disaster zone that is a massive space ship that has crashed into a massive building with no equipment, gear or any training. They don’t even have radios or flashlights. The Amelie one has a ninja sword so I guess they are good.

Ok I get that it was a whimsical decision by the genius DOGE/CEO kid, but really, Not even a flashlight? They didn’t even put a radio on Kirsh (Timothy Olliphant).

Since I am on he subject of Kirsch… dude do you have anything of value to say? All the character does is ask cryptic dicknose style questions. If anyone needs a soup can to the nuts it is this pompous asswipe.

The production values mostly consist of just hiding everything with bad lighting…

The horror elements just aren’t working. The scene where to two random guys where zip tied to a pole and the alien insect things attached themselves to their jugglers was pretty unnerving, other than that… meh. WTF was the scene with the alien slaughter everyone at the costume party?

Why does the search and rescue team have guns?

I suspect that my primary issue with the show is the same issue I have with Predator, Terminator, Peter Pan and Robin Hood, I have seen enough Alien.

As I said in my other comment, I’m not sure this show is actually supposed to be horror. If anything, it seems to be deliberately mocking some of the tropes of the genre (particularly those from the Alien franchise) by committing sins like showing the Alien running around in clearly lit areas right from the start. It feels much more like slasher - it’s not supposed to be scary, but rather entertainingly violent.

I am not really following you. Slasher movies and TV shows are a type of horror movie and TV show.

Alien 79 is a slasher flick, with a sci-fi skin. FYI Jaws is a slasher flick as well.

it’s not supposed to be scary, but rather entertainingly violent.

Well yeah, that is what all Slasher Flicks attempt to do.

I am not convinced that the show is attempting to be entertainingly violent, but for the sake of argument I will accept your position and counter that the show just isn’t pulling it off. It is really just falling flat. It sure is violent.

The show hasn’t done anything to convince me it is attempting to subvert the tropes, in any sort of creative way, I just don’t think it is that good.

So far all this show has demonstrated to me is that they are throwing a lot of shit against the wall and are waiting to see what sticks.

I suppose I just don’t consider the slasher genre scary at all, so there is a clear distinction between it and all other forms of horror. I certainly wouldn’t consider the original Alien film a slasher.

Firstly, “bad lighting” is the term for high-key overall lighting such as in studio sitcoms and talk shows.

Secondly, the lighting in this show is very good.

They have guns because they’re going into a ship owned by a hostile company.

Boy Kavalier is aptly named. He’s sending the prototypes in to see what will happen.
