Zohran Mamdani pulled in almost double the funds of his nearest rivals for New York City mayor between early July and mid-August, as the candidates prepare for the crucial post Labor Day push to the November poll.

New York’s City’s campaign finance board said on Saturday that the democratic socialist, who won the Democratic party nomination in June against former state governor Andrew Cuomo, raised $1,051,200, with an average donation of $121 recorded equally from donors in and outside the state.

I think it’s far more likely he turns out to be a retread of Obama 2008, where he is super charismatic and says all the right things, but then immediately turns stooge for the billionaires once he’s in power.

For all his faults Obama was the best president in my entire lifetime so getting back to that point is a start at least.

Obama was a major reason as to why fascism got stronger and flourished. He could have done so much to turn back the clock on fascism, but instead, he did what the billionaires told him to and made it worse, ultimately leading to a Trump presidency.

Him and everyone before him, we only judge him harsher because he was the first to give the slightest glimmer of hope for change and feel betrayed. I was embarrassed to wear my Obama 2008 shirt for a long time for those same reasons, but now it reminds me of America when we at least a decent competent people in office and i wear it nostalgically

Well, that and the kill list, supporting torture, maintaining black sites, militarizing the police, brutalizing Occupy, bailing out the big banks and doing nothing to help the foreclosed, etc. etc. etc.

He gave great speeches, but he was a shitty, evil president.

Hope you live long enough to see otherwise in your life. I already gambled by not voting for Hillary so we can get someone “better” after Trump, but I don’t think MAGA taking power has helped on that or any of your points either so I won’t be doubling down on that play next time.

My only goal is to not see this decline progress to where fascism has progressed in the past, and I’ll defer my dreams of a progressive utopian society if need be. But if we get a progressive superman who has a shot and will deliver on all our hopes and dreams then they’ll certainly have my vote.

But I’m not going to delude myself about my options. I have kids now and my choices will affect them far more than me: things like ICE gestapo stripping their citizenship and deporting them to Uganda are the types of things that keep me up these days. Didn’t have that under Obama, not going to gamble again.

Yes we did. The only difference was that it was Muslims being targeted.

Go look up who it was that appointed Tom Homan.

You can’t seriously be arguing that it was just as worse as it is now, even for Muslims.

I voted for her and watched her cult of fash-lites blame me for trump anyway. Same as is happening now with Harris.

Still got my T-shirt! When Trump won in 2016, I told my ex-wife, “The Obama’s were a classy family, and not this.”

He capitulated during before the election. First, be denounced his pastor, Reverend Jeremiah Wright, rightly saying that 9-11 was the USA’s chickens having come home to roost, and when that didn’t quiet down the chaos machine, he unjoined his church and joined one more palatable to the Nazis.

            Obama’s problem was being black.

For one, the racists fucking exploded. They had been forced to suck it up for decades, keep the hate on the down low.

Fox News had always been conservative, but they went bugfuck after Obama took the Oval Office. Man, I don’t even want to repeat what all I saw and heard. Believe me or not, that was the dividing line.

Two, being black in this country means walking on eggshells. Makes me sick seeing black friends and coworkers over the years, not kissing ass, but having to be extra deferential to and around white people. If someone doesn’t believe me, observe how black people act around each other vs. around white people. Be the only white guy at the club or a cookout, you’ll see. As our first black President, Obama had to be extra humble, and yet look at the hell he caught.

So yeah, in hindsight, he might have done more. I’m not going to Monday-morning quarterback the man.

I hope not, he is a member of DSA and gets a lot of his support from them so if he goes that route he’s gonna lose the people he has around him right now that are a large reason as to why he’s successful. Hopefully he doesn’t join the establishment like Obama did and instead can be a Trump like force from the left to oppose the status quo and fight for people.

If you mean Elizabeth Warren then he better watch out or she’ll join the race and stay in just long enough for the centrists to consolidate support and then drop out without endorsing him. That’s exactly what she did to Bernie.

Exactly I wouldn’t trust that snake with a ten foot pole. She isn’t a progressive. If she thinks stabbing him the back could win her points she will dp it. Also I worry about Obama alternter motives.

I think the concern is that, like in the Bernie 2016 case, forces within the party might ensure the outcome goes a particular way.
