Not anti theft but every now and again I have to restart my phone because of anti swipe protection. I just can’t find the setting to disable it.
It’s always fun when you have to hack your own device to do something.
I’ve found that cleaning off my screen, waiting about 10 seconds, and swiping a little slower gets me out of the anti swipe loop.
I hate that you cannot host that stuff yourself. Everything is tied to fucking Google.

One time about 10 years ago, I must have been really stressed out because I couldn’t do the swipe pattern right to unlock my phone, I couldn’t really remember it, but I kept trying, I risked a dangerous guess, and my phone erased.
Is that what you meant?
Modern phones are essentially bricked if your phone got reset the wrong way (eg: remote wipe, or bootloader recovery menu), then you have to enter your Google/Apple account credentials, so if you forgot that, its as good as e-waste.
The original intent of these locks was supposedly to deter theft, so the question was more like: Do you think Google and Apple’s activation locks / FRP are a good way to deter theft?
Another time, we found a Nintendo switch that was lost on a bus, we called nintendo to try to return it to its owner, but they couldn’t do it. So we weren’t sure what was the point of having to log in to the Nintendo account.
Do you mean FRP? That’s been kinda hit-and-miss, I’ve been able to crack it more often than not, once even without a guide.

Factory Reset Protection. If you factory wipe an Android phone that still had a Google or Samsung account on it, you need to sign in to the same account again to use it. However, it is sometimes possible to switch away from the initial setup app, and then do whatever it takes to wipe the FRP data. On early Android (pre-2015), this might be as easy as setting the screen lock to Swipe and restarting.
