I agree, but this is also how they are justifying the OSA.
Which is designed by Nazis to hurt children
And literally anyone else they consider “inferior”. There’s a reason why Neo-nazis use “1488” to identify themselves to others.
much like bugs, I just don’t want them to touch me with their little shit encrusted hands but they can be a reasonable minimum distance away. If they are in danger and nobody else is around to help I’ll use a stick or leaf or something to move them to safety still.
You mean in the country that has elected a known pedophile who is now covering his own crimes? You mean in the country currently petitioning to bring back child labor? The country hearing arguments for lowering the age of consent? The country that is militantly opposed to family planning but even more militantly against social safety nets and welfare for children and families? The same country that has allowed the wholesale slaughter of children in cities and schools and responded by making guns even more deadly and easier to get? You mean the country where people who try to help children being starved to death in Gaza end up jailed or deported or have their lives threatened? The country that has done everything possible to strip things like school lunches, after-school programs or any basic community efforts to contribute to children growing up competent and healthy?
I won’t hold my breath that the “unsettled online freaks” are going to amount to much.
Maybe unpopular idea but a screenshot of a tweet isn’t a meme. Hope this trend dies in a fire soon.
“There are different ways to think of the children, amirite?”
–GOPChildren’s rights are a seriously under discussed issue. You wouldn’t think so, with “what about the children???” being a favorite way to argue for evil bullshit, but it’s a front. In the United States at least, children are considered the property of their parents. There’s nothing to protect children from parents who harm them by refusing to vaccinate, denying them medical care, even shit like refusing to get them social security numbers (some religious families will do this to girls especially, to make it impossible for them to work). We also have the troubled teen industry, where parents can sign off on their child being physically and psychologically abused by strangers (the state will only intervene if it becomes sexual.)
We need a children’s rights movement, but there’s something primal in the conservative Right’s need for a patriarch to completely control their families. It’s treated as an essential right for parents to be able to completely control their children’s lives until they turn 18.
I was just talking about this and the troubles it causes for kids who have no legal guardians or guardians who don’t know them or care about them. Kids in foster care have no rights essentially. They are not allowed to consent to anything (their opinions don’t matter) and so they can be moved around like luggage and that is exactly what they feel like.
It’s all so disgusting but if you even broach the topic, conservatives act like you want children to have the absolute right to become a pole dancer.
Could not agree more but I find the phrasing of the meme a little troubling. Most of the people who would agree with it are the ones creating the problems you are describing. Their idea of protecting children is treating them like precious objects.
Agreed
!YouthLiberation@slrpnk.net this is the relevant sublemmy
This is absolutely true, but consider
As a father of two under 3, I feel this on the daily. But I find it’s only really a problem if I’m sleep deprived or otherwise already worn out but something else. I’ve heard adults throw worse tantrums and scream-cry worse than any toddler
I often think toddlers are much better people than adults but they’re so damn helpless and naive, a society of toddlers couldn’t survive unfortunately.
“that makes the US President uncomfortable”
