I still haven’t managed to get in, mostly because I don’t know how to find an instance, or what I should be looking for to choose an instance.

I think I would like an Australia based instance, but I can’t find any way to filter or search for that.

I’ve had one person recommend peertube.wtf to me, but I still don’t know what would make it better than any other instance.

Some people just take a while to absorb new information.

My father would always seem like he was completely stuck in his ways and unyielding if you argued with him for one day. But if you came back the next day, he usually had a much better view and had accepted some of your statements.
I actually enjoyed debating him once I learned this, and learned to drag out the debates over several days. I also understood a lot more by copying his method of learning.

Not everything needs to be instant. Give people information, then give them time to think about it.

I will agree with you on the mugshot/arrest thing. You could have 100 charges brought against you and still be innocent.
If you’ve been convicted of 34 felonies and been impeached twice, that’s a slightly different matter.

Unfortunately, making a point succinctly often means making a broader statement than desired.

I always make all of my source code available, provide the most detailed bug reports, help people for free whenever I can, and use / pay for open source software instead of buying commercial software.

I also try to avoid companies actively causing harm. I don’t buy from Amazon, I switched to an electric car to stop paying oil companies, I installed solar panels and got a wholesale energy provider so I can minimise paying fossil fuel energy providers.

I run a business providing tech support for elderly, disabled, and low income people, and only charge for parts (with no markup).

If you can think of anything else I can do, I am happy to take suggestions.

  • I have used AI to give me the syntax and function names I need, then researched those functions and found better ones instead.

I once asked AI to show me how to do something and it gave me a 20 line script. After 2 hours working with it, I finally got it to work. Another 30 minutes of optimizing and got it down to 3 lines. A bit more research and I discovered that what I wanted was actually a language feature, and I just needed to call a single function with a single argument.

AI occasionally saves me time, and usually causes a significant time waste.
