Similarly, granular audio options that separate dialogue from ambient from music from system sounds. Definitely don’t need my ears blown out just to hear dialogue.

I like having the background music very low, but not off, system sounds a bit above that, sound effects higher than system but lower than dialogue, which is maxed. And of course ambient sound levels really depend on the game and what kind of ambiance it has.

Same thing with granular contrast/gamma/etc. Don’t just provide a few preset options, especially if they can only be set before you start the game (also they should never only be set from the main menu, never). Let the player choose whatever they want on the fly. I love playing with everything bright so I can see wtf I’m doing, I don’t give half a shit if the devs think it should be so dark it’s not navigable. I disagree.

At least the 4 dinners aren’t empty calories, so there’s that. They actually contain stuff that’s good for you. So not really a wash. Plus excess eating doesn’t damage your body to nearly the same degree as a similar number of calories in alcohol form, you can just exercise it away, or shift eating habits to account for it.

I personally would rather be an amputee on the side of the road with no shelter than be kept prisoner in my own body with the use of drugs and restraints. That’s literally my worst nightmare. And I’m not “severely mentally ill”.

You don’t know what reasons she has for doing what she does, but what IS completely, abundantly, crystal clear, is that she herself considers the position she is presently in to be better than whatever she would potentially deal with under care. And you don’t know why she came to this conclusion. Maybe she was institutionalized when she was young and was abused or whatever and has ptsd about it. Maybe she knows someone else who was.

Or yeah, maybe she’s so mentally ill that it’s forcing her to deny care. I strongly doubt it, but maybe. And we’ll never know unless we fix everything else first. So. Kinda moot point, isn’t it?
