  • It’s definitely not going to live up to the hype. We already know what Hollow Knight is like, and we’ve seen a demo of what Silksong will be like from last year’s E3, and… it’s really not that much different. Not that that’s an inherently bad thing, since Hollow Knight was already really good, so any improvement on that is only going to be better.

I worry that it’ll suffer a similar fate to Duke Nukem Forever. In a vacuum, DNF isn’t necessarily a bad game, but it suffered from being overhyped for years. So when it came out and just turned out to be “okay”, that was the final nail in the coffin for the Duke Nukem franchise. I hope I’m wrong, though.

  • It’s not surprising to me at all. I occasionally have to use TikTok for work (ugh), and some of the hashtags I have to check on are also used by children, so young kids will often pop up in my work feed. Usually it’s just something benign like a dancing video, but I’ve stumbled on some where these kids, who aren’t even out of high school, talking about how they’re going to “drop the link” the day they turn 18, which for some of these kids isn’t for another five damn years. It’s disturbing how open children are about entering this line of work. And it doesn’t help that they constantly have adults creeping around in kids’ thirst trap videos, validating these thoughts in their comments.

I don’t like where this is headed.

  • From my experience in the industry, these situations are most commonly caused by a driver getting kicked off the app. They’re not allowed to sign back up, so they’ll buy a stolen identity and use that to register a new account and evade detection from the background checks. Or they may be undocumented and using a stolen ID to work, but this can be harder to determine.

Other times, it could just be that the driver has somebody riding along with them. Which is generally not allowed on most apps, because the friend won’t have had a background check submitted, and may now be handling your food.

  • I’ve been having the same thought lately. I feel like consumer tech has stagnated since the early 2010s. I miss watching announcements each summer as companies announced their new products and new features, and introducing literal new ways of life.

These days, there’s nothing new anymore. This year’s phone is the same as last year’s and the year before that, except now it has more AI. This year’s game console is the same as the last one, but now it has even more restrictions on game ownership. This year’s car is the same as last year, but now it has a monthly subscription for power steering.
