That means your life isn’t getting shitty as fast as wage inequality is changing?

Same! Sometimes what you need to relax is garbage television and that’s ok.

4·22 days agoThis article is about an income tax. An additional 4% tax on income over 1 million dollars annually.
This article is not about a wealth tax.
Sometimes exercise can help with this. The hard part is you have to find the motivation to exercise for a few months before you feel the results of not being tired.
And price controls have a pretty terrible track record of providing a net benefit.
In reality, it was just ‘Surfin Bird’ by the Trashmen.

I’d argue not really designed at all. Capitalism occurred rather organically. The incentive structure underlying it is emergent. It was more successful at self reinforcement than all other models. The problem is that there hasn’t been a ton design to tweak the system to align it to societal goals. This means the self reinforcement continues whether it makes the world better or not. You need design to mold the self perpetuating system into having an incentive structure that aligns with societal goals.
The current state is due to lack of design, not based on design.
The Ethiopian alphabet (abougida) has this feature, but it goes one step further. Every vowel consonant pair (aka every syllable) has it’s own symbol. That sounds like a lot of symbols, and it is, but the beauty of it is that the vowel sounds are just modifiers of the consonant. So you only have to memorize the consonant symbols and the modifiers and you can reduce drastically reduce the number of letters needed plus have a completely phonetic writing system.
Plus, probably still required to do military service, only you get no armor and face knights in full plate who have trained their whole lives to kill you.
OMG yes! Harry Potter makes the best curry sauce!

Programmer Humor@programming.dev•What is the result of a programmer's work?
13·2 months agoRobotics (or more broadly mechatronics) is a super interesting field. To do the work at the mechanical/electrical interface is really hard.
The field of industrial controls skips the hard part and just buys stuff that is pre-designed to move. Then those pre-designed pieces are made to fit and work together. It’s like complicated Legos and is honestly very fun and rewarding.
If you want to do programming with a physical result, controls engineering is a great option. I would recommend shooting for the hard stuff (real programming - DSP, FPGA, etc) knowing you’ve got a safe fallback with industrial controls (PLC programming).
