I don’t know about the alarm systems in public places, but for my own alarms, I would disagree. They were placed according to manufacturer instructions and the ones that refuse to stay quiet even when there is no smoke, are pristine on the inside when taken apart. Complete with sealed “10-year” battery from no more than 5 years ago.
Fortunately, the replacements I’ve installed seem less problematic than those that came with the house.
On that note, some LG phones like the V20 were renowned for having a nice DAC
Rarely if it gets hot enough, I’ll toss the pillow aside first.
But I’m also the same person who voluntarily sleeps on a padded sheet of plywood instead of a mattress
No, I need something to keep a pocket of warm air around me, unless:
Innioasis Y1 might be a nice option. Looks like a classic iPod, but supports drag-and-drop syncing, USB-C, FM Radio, Bluetooth, even FLAC files. 128 GB out of the box, replaceable with a larger SD card, albeit you have to crack it open. Only downside I can think of is not being able to fast scroll through the alphabet if you have a larger collection.
When debating the efficacy of my privacy measures, my friend asked,
You know, what if it just is compromised already? By the NSA, Facebook, Google, and so forth.
And I said, at least I am making it known that I hate them all, I’ll stand up for what is right, and I’m not leaving without a fight.
Same, until I got a pouch to store the keys, multi-tool, pen, and mini notepad in a single package. Now it’s kinda like a wallet for all of the non-wallet things.
Github now reports to Microsoft’s AI division directly
Letting batteries drain too far:
Also, I really should be buying Lithium AA/AAA cells now that I have so few devices that need them, but I keep buying a pack of alkalines each year. Ni-MH voltage falls just a tad short.
Correct, could mean other, various, “etc.”. Inherited heading from my previous journals, I’m not sure where it came from either.
For the time column, I highlight, shade, or “whisker plot” the cells of the relevant hours and minutes, then write in the task. Stole the idea from a Kokuyo planner, you can see it in action here.

The synthetic food from the Lorax. Always looked like giant delicious gummies to me.
More optimistically, I would stop complaining about my bedtime, take better care of my teeth, and join a sports program. Try not to be a perfectionist and put more time toward proper hobbies instead of wasting away on the internet. I’d also treasure my time with my parents a lot more than I did back when I was 8. They’re still around for me, but man do I wish I had more time to spend with them.

They are irrelevant, except for a few compounds that affect taste, if your local water treatment plant is doing its job properly. I’ve had the misfortune of renting in an area that did a half-ass job with water treatment, so I used those attachments as a precaution. The water did taste better, but hard water deposits were still about as bad as without it. Didn’t run any tests beyond that though.
The issue really comes in with the lifespan of the filters. If you’re intent on staying hydrated, you’ll burn through cartridges (and $$$) like nobody’s business and it’s tempting to put off changing out filters for weeks at a time. And after several months, the attachment itself will leak quite profusely from the filter/passthrough toggle.
If you actually do need to treat your water, such as in the case of well water, and have access to your plumbing, it’s much more economical to install an inline or whole-home filtration system.
If, say, I hear that “Bob is a feminist”, I reflexively think that Bob is somehow renowned or outspoken in contrast to the general public for supporting feminist causes, perhaps as an educator, figurehead, or activist. I’m not sure what other specific situations I would emphasize myself as feminist, but I’d do the same if put in your situation as a way of standing up.
There are various schools of feminism, some of which have conflicting opinions. But the common feminist standpoints, like equal rights, seem to be just common sense for me, especially in this day and age. I’m not sure where the requirement for equal physical ability fits into the equation.
At least for me, going out and saying that you are feminist carries a sort of special connotation, and since I haven’t participated in any explicitly activist events related to feminism, I wouldn’t readily emblazon myself with the feminist label even though I stand by those ideas.
For now, sentience seems more a marketing buzzword rather than a goal. Sentience itself isn’t bad, nor should it be a blanket excuse to grant such a machine any rights, but we really need to keep them from wielding undue influence over our lives.
Sure, we might not be able to truly vet a person or LLM to see if their intentions are pure. But on the timescale of human brainpower, the LLM, sentient or not, has all the time in the world to craft dangerously charming messages that mask its incompetence or malice.
Who are pushing pro-China narratives? Who are pushing pro-Western narratives? What are their motives and, at the end of the day, who is benefiting from it all? Do the words of the politicians whom you support match their actions, or they just looking out for the bottom line? There are states that treat their citizens with dignity and there are states that do an exceptional job of convincing their citizens that they are being treated in a dignified way.
You don’t have to be reflexively pro-China or pro-West. Evidence from reputable sources has been provided throughout this thread and in all corners of the internet. The people who can best answer your question have led you to the water. It is up to you to drink it.
Microplastic contamination has reached even the most remote of tribes. Good luck.
Best you (or any of us) can do is to just have a balanced diet with a minimum of highly processed foods.
If the produce is contaminated in the way you find it to be, that’s not really your fault.
