There are too many sponsored AI girlfriend apps.

You would think with new strict online safety laws about “protect the kids, show me your ID” this would be the single upside.

But somehow they aren’t blocked. At all. Sponsored, even.

Like if they just pretended it’s an actual safety for children thing they would remove it.

Just pretend. Please. Lie competently.

No one gives a shit about the children, its just a convenient reason for pushing through politicians agenda.

There are loads of ways in which children need to actually be protected, social media control, vaping, micro transactions, bullying, losing education resources/funding, child poverty, etc etc.

If there isn’t money to be made or political points to be scored, then no one is interested.

Right. “Would somebody please think of the children” is almost always not about children, but a means to justify some new oppression or surveillance tech. If they cared, they’d invest spend money to staff police force or implement some of the useful suggestions. Or invest in children’s wellbeing, teach them media literacy or fund some programs so they can get help or spend their time in a better way. Same for adults and the various reasons they resort to AI for companionship.

The playstore is an absolute shitshow. I tried installing an app with my parents the past days. Even after typing in the correct name, there are one or two other apps on top that are vaguely related to the apps purpose (not the name though). The start page and everything is an unintuitive mess

The smartphone app stores have never been about quality.

Back when the windows phone was a thing, all three companies were paying for apps just to pad the numbers.

I know this because a close friend at the time worked for a company that was paid per app he published to each of the stores.

I can’t remember ever in my life using Play Store to browse for apps. It’s been literally nothing but ads for as long as I can remember. If there’s an app I need I will search the web for recommendations and then just click the link that opens in the Store. So while I certainly care for other people, on a personal level, it doesn’t bother me at all.

I just poured through my play store page and I didn’t see a single instance of AI girlfriend content. They push things based on your profile so maybe you are the target audience 🤷‍♂️

Yeah that’s the thing I had to doublecheck just for that before blaming.

Playstore website without sign-in on new browser on library wifi :

Which is not as aggressive without accounts but click polybuzz and tell me what age-group they are specifically targeting and why.
