Man, Ron should know better than this! He’s been in the biz for decades.
How many times have you read about a classic scene that didn’t test well with audiences, yet stayed in the movie? Think we ever would have had the Alien chestburster if a group of random people voted on it?
And never forget test audiences killing the end of I Am Legend, ruining the entire point of the plot.
I would never have allowed Han Solo to die, but that turned out to be the perfect time.
Engage fans in financing to jump start projects they want to see, let them vote with their wallets on continuing series, but for god’s sake don’t give them creative control.
I think you’re missing the entire point of this plot. Power must be reclaimed from big money. It will be messy along the way.
Per the co-founders, Watrfall empowers fans to financially invest in the stories they care about while actively participating in their creation through voting on projects, engaging in the creative process, and gaining transparent access to financials, enabling fans to step into the role of producer.
To quote Bubsy:
What could possibly go wrong?
I mean isn’t this already what Kickstarter does? Just with a few extra touch points.
I guess my point is that giving that kind of control to fans doesn’t necessarily make a better end-product. Often, it dilutes what is there to cater to fan-obsessive bullshit.
When was the last time your input on a kickstarter truly changed it? Or your opinion on an early access game title that changed it for the worse?
I don’t necessarily disagree. There’s a reason a lot of fan fiction is drivel.
I just think we’ve had platforms that already do this with mixed results. I don’t think it’s gonna be anything new we haven’t seen.
I don’t think major studios are any different. Most of what I see when looking for new things to watch are franchises that seek to satiate the fandom. If fan based drivel is going to end up being a significant portion of films anyway I’d rather the money go to creators than executives
Yes, but specifically for film and media projects from the sound of it.
Are we going to be subject to films where no one dies and everyone is a love interest?
