    apparently the ancient Greek word being translated as “soup” doesn’t actually mean soup in general, but specifically a sort of pea porridge

      Porridge is often translated weirdly in english. In scandinavia people usually eat porridge made of rice. Literally risgröt where gröt means porridge, but usually people refer to it as rice pudding.
