A British woman who was shot dead by her father while visiting his home in Texas had argued with him about US President Donald Trump earlier that day, an inquest has heard.

Lucy Harrison, from Warrington in Cheshire, was shot in the chest on 10 January 2025 in Prosper, near Dallas.

Police in the town investigated the 23-year-old’s death as possible manslaughter but no criminal case was brought against Kris Harrison after a grand jury in Collin County declined to indict him.

An inquest into Lucy Harrison’s death opened earlier at Cheshire Coroner’s Court, where her boyfriend Sam Littler described the “big argument” about Trump, who was preparing to be inaugurated for his second term of office.

What the article says is they disagreed on guns and argued about Trump. They went into his room to look at his 9mm glock and according to him the gun went of and he didn’t realize his finger was on the trigger. He relapsed to alcohol and was drunk at the time.

He said: “As I lifted the gun to show her I suddenly heard a loud bang. I did not understand what had happened. Lucy immediately fell.”

Harrison said he could not recall whether his finger was on the trigger.

        We’ll never know the truth.

I shoot pretty often, and handguns are notoriously inaccurate. So I think he may very well have shot her in anger and fabricated this afterwards. Also it she was against guns, why would she follow someone, who is intoxicated, into another room, to look at one‽

This story is fishy as fuck.

On the trigger or not, that’s exactly why you never “show” someone a loaded gun. Unless we are at a range and we’ve already done all the safety training and I feel that you’ve got a grasp of it, I’m not keeping a loaded gun in my hands around anyone I don’t plan on shooting.

It was pure negligence. Plain and simple. And now his daughter is dead. Accident or not, he ignored the rules and someone died from that negligence.

Yeah. A Taurus or a Sig, maybe. Not a Glock. There’s a reason they’re so popular. They reliably fire when the trigger is pulled and only when the trigger is pulled.

Even if it was a Sig, it was only older model P322s that had that problem. Pistols firing without pulling the trigger isn’t nearly as common as people (including, apparently, this jury) believe.

Also the P320 - which was adopted as the new standard-issue handgun for the US military.

The Air Force actually suspended their use for a few months last year after one went off uncommanded and killed an airman. They inspected them and found that over 2% were already in unsafe condition after being adopted just 5 years earlier.

And the civilan version is worse and in the middle of several lawsuits. And this is after they were recalled for not being drop-safe.

He said it was an accident. I think a different article I read on this said he went back to treatment for alcoholism after this. This kinda suggests he was too drunk to remember. The other article noted the dad is not the one that called the ambulance which would more commonly be the case in an accidental shooting. But if he was drunk idk.

It’s perfectly on brand for the USA, really. This uppity woman didn’t listen to the man of the house, so he had to wave his gun around to remind her of her place. He was so distraught at his authority being questioned that his gun accidentally went off while it was pointed at his daughter. The guy feels bad, so it’s OK. Plus, as he said himself,

Kris Harrison had replied that he had two other daughters who lived with him so it [his daughter being sexually assaulted] would not upset him that much.

Texas, I swear to God. I am from there, all of my family is there. My daughters adore their cousins and beg to move there. Absolutely not.

My MAGA Dad raised his hand like he was going to hit me at Christmas during a political discussion. I was shocked. He is old and feeble, so I told him I would hit him back.

I’m on the fence on this one. How old are they?

On the visit home over Christmas, the idea crossed my mind of retiring there, and I got fairly homesick. I miss the arid, rugged climate. I hate the cold. Being close to family would be nice, and Texas could use more hard-headed, angry liberals. But it’s too dangerous until my uterus is old and broken down and while I’m responsible for other people with functional or soon-to-be-functional uterii. Texas also has water shortage on the near-term horizon from shitty resource management, so it’s best to wait and see where that goes.

But my point is, everyone wants to go home to die, right?

It also forced all people, great and small, rich and poor, free and slave, to receive a mark on their right hands or on their foreheads

It really depends on the part. Austin and San Antonio are very art-focused, moderate/liberal cities in some of the most beautiful areas of the country, but everywhere in America has rural populations of utterly deranged hog-people.

A place like Dallas you aren’t as likely to get shot, but you are more likely to face weird, old-money racism and discrimination.

The problem with texas is it has some of the most vast areas of rural population, as the entire state is just this flat sprawl of land with isolated communities full of poor drug addicts who just stare at the flatness of it all before going insane.

As a Liberal Texan, there are a lot of great, progressive places in Texas. Generalizing a whole fucking state is pretty shitty. You realize how many millions of people live here?

Yes, our governor sucks ass. The state is jerrymandered into Republican control. However, as someone who has travelled and lived in over two dozen states in the US, I can tell you I’ve seen some of the biggest Trumpers in rural “blue states” like California.

Don’t blanket assume everyone is a gun toting, Trump voting Republican just because a state OVERALL votes a certain way.

People can be great, towns and cities can be nice, but corruption from leadership can ruin it for everyone. True for a state, the same for a country.

Agreed, but much like all Americans aren’t assholes because of the Federal government being Trump’s cronies, generalizing the entire state of Texas as “a shithole” is what I find offensive.

It doesn’t even matter what people on the Internet think of you. Wake up from your defensiveness. America is already at the point now where we are going to have to throw the baby out with the bathwater. Texas has long been a lost cause.

Objectively speaking, you have to admit that if you are from any other states and visit Texas you would more likely be harassed by law enforcement or be a target for being an outsider. Does that mean that the citizens are all a reflection of that? Not really, but it would be very hard to convince a tourist (international or otherwise) to visit a state that has a backwards viewpoint that bleeds into their justice system.

Case in point, this women gets smoked and no charges are being pressed.

Maybe one brother is just a conspiracy-minded libertarian, but the rest are MAGAs. I still love them and visit them, but I don’t want them having any legal jurisdiction over me or my kids.

It’s patriarchy, and people fighting patriarchy. It’s always been about white guys feeling terrified of their power eroding, and since white patriarchy has no coherent acceptable response other than rage, their first resort is everyone else’s last resort.

Harrison said he could not recall whether his finger was on the trigger.

I do not like Glocks. Quite simply, I prefer pistols with a manual safety which Glocks do not have. That said, a Glock WILL NOT FIRE unless your finger is on the trigger. A Glock’s safety mechanism is on the trigger itself.

If you are going to own a firearm, GO TO TRAINING. Trigger discipline should be muscle memory so that even piss drunk you keep your finger off the goddamn trigger until youbare ready to pull. If the guy was trained in firearm use, then he 100% murdered his daughter on purpose.

I"m giving that piece of shit A LOT of leeway by assuming he wasn’t purposefully pointing the gun at her and rather just holding it to show. (That’s cutting about ten miles of slack.) If that’s what he was doing (doubtful) then he should not have had his finger on the trigger.

My gut tells me that his MAGA poisoned brain, having the impulse control impaired by alcohol, pointed the gun at her and his finger twitched, because deep down he wanted to “kill the b!t¢h” that dared insult his god emperor. The bang instantly sobered him up and broke his hateful trance. That’s when he started cryring for mommy his wife.

Yeah, there is perhaps no pistol more known for unequivocally not firing unless the trigger is fully pressed from the center. There are in fact three different independent safeties in a glock. Man murdered his daughter, I do not accept complete ignorance of firearm use as a defense for someone who owns a gun and chose to pull out a loaded weapon and point it at someone.

I don’t disagree, I just wanted to point out that “the gun just went off” is absolute bullshit with a Glock. The rest is just me being way too generous. Best case scenario (for him), because it was a Glock, he should have been charged with involuntary or negligent manslaughter. If they charge parents for leaving a gun unlocked which leads to a child’s death, then why the hell would they nit charge that piece of shit.

Unless it’s whatever Sig was that had a recall. And the firing mechanism could still slip from certain impacts. But those don’t have anything to do with the safety; an additional safety isn’t going to fix those.

I did last week, and walked out with it that day. I had 6 hours of instruction very focused on safety and discipline. Most I tried had safeties like this, not at all just glocks.

And I’ve seen multiple threads online insisting people should keep their gun loaded and chambered at home, even though they’ll likely never need it for defense, and it takes under 2 seconds to slap in a mag and cock it. And if the gun were pre-cocked, it would just chamber automatically anyway.

I have heard it said that the prosecution has enormous power over what grand juries get to hear, to such an extent that grand jury results are mostly just a way of formalizing what the prosecutor has already decided. If the state wants an indictment, the state pretty much always gets one.

That and the general “hive mind” lead to very predictable outcomes, especially when you can get early dismissal once you’ve cleared your docket.

Because they don’t care about evidence or facts unless it fits into their narrative.

You can point to posts advocating for violence or censorship coming from their ilk and they’ll just attribute it back to the other side because “we wouldn’t need to if they didn’t do it to us first.” It’s just the abuser justification, “look at what you made me do”.

Or they will just outright deny reality, dismissing opposing evidence as conspiracies, exaggerated, or misunderstood. Did Elon really do a Nazi salute? “No, no. He was just sending his heart out to Americans!”

And when there’s overwhelming evidence that they can’t do mental gymnastics around? They shut down the conversation. They stop talking about it. They ignore it. They bury it. Out of sight, out of mind.

When someone is indoctrinated into that way of thinking and makes their politics a part of their personality, you are not going to beat them at their own game. Their sense of identity is tied to their beliefs and their ego will not let them accept anything that goes against those beliefs. They need to be deprogrammed.

It’s a shame our registered Democrats don’t actually vote.

A truly crazy thing to say, given the systematic voter disenfranchisement the state suffers from.

There was a seven hour long line to vote in one of Houston’s bluest districts. This story was further complicated, when the last person to vote in this line was targeted by the state’s AG for prosecution.

When Hervis Rogers went viral on social media for being the last person in line at Texas Southern University to cast a vote at 1 a.m. on Super Tuesday, he was applauded as a tenacious, civic-minded man who worked hard to exercise his right to vote.

Now, Rogers is being prosecuted by Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton’s office for allegedly voting illegally while on parole.

The arrest came just one day before the Texas Legislature convened on Thursday to begin a special session, where a controversial voting bill is on the agenda. Republicans in favor of new voting restrictions point to cases like Rogers’ as proof of an insecure system. However, there was no evidence of widespread voter fraud in the 2020 presidential election.

Another notable case was a woman who cast a provisional ballot while out on parole. She was hit with a five-year prison sentence, which took years to overturn.

Democrats want people in Texas to vote? Maybe Biden’s DOJ should have decriminalized Voting While Black within the state, while he had that power.

Where did you get that number from? Texas doesn’t have party affiliation on voter registration. Affiliation is automatic when you vote in a primary and expires at the end of the calendar year, and I be surprised if we’ve ever had bigger turnout for the Democratic primaries during my voting-age life.

Thanks, that’s where I was assuming. Like I want to believe, given the population spread throughout the state it seems reasonable to think there should be more left-leaning voters. But take for example this blurb from that site:

Texas voters do not register by party. However, when those voters participate in a partisan primary, that ballot choice is recorded and reported on the state voter file. In the absence of stronger indications (e.g. partisan political contributions or identification due to the holding of partisan public office) the most recent even-year partisan primary ballot is used .

But the 2024 primary turnout were 1.8M Republican ballots and 831k Democratic ballots. And that’s actually up vs the 725k Democratic primary ballots in 2020 (vs ~1.9M Republic ballots that year)! So that doesn’t add up.

We do know that there are otherwise-Democratic voters who vote in the Republican primaries because the districts are gerrymandered such that the primary is basically the real election (looking at me here).

This information is supplemented through the use of modeling analytics. Likely race in major urban areas plays a major role in that modeling.

I wish they would give more info than this.

Yeah, I was hoping they’d go into more detail about how they got their numbers in the link at the top of the page, but no such luck.

Seeing as like two cases of illegal immigrants killing pretty white girls is being constantly used as justification of deporting all illegal immigrants, does this mean we can use this as justification of deporting all MAGA supporters?
